Your Personality May Be Influenced by Nutrient Imbalances-Here's Why

This week, as part of our Nourishment Beyond Nutrition Series, we hosted a talk led by Dr. Ari Calhoun on How Genetically Based Nutrient Imbalances Determine Personality Subtypes.

Dr. Ari is a Naturopathic and Functional Medicine Doctor trained in Advanced Nutrient Therapy, a form of nutrient based psychiatry, which she utilizes in her practice to help individuals gain a greater sense of understanding and control over their mood.

Our ongoing series Nourishment Beyond Nutrition brings together expert-led education with womens’ circle-like sharing, on a range of topics related to supporting mamas and mamas-to-be. The conversations often expand beyond nutrition, as nutrition alone is not enough for full nourishment. In response to the global COVID19 pandemic, and the added stress this is placing on expecting and new mothers and their partners, we have shifted our event series to daily sessions on our Instagram and other platforms. We are excited to share these powerful conversations with our broader Needed community.

Below is a recap and link to the replay of our event with Dr. Ari.

Why this Topic?

Have you ever wondered why you are the way you are? Did you know that specific nutrient imbalances can highly influence your personality, including your mental and emotional stability?

Nutrient imbalances are often genetically predetermined as your genes influence how you assimilate, metabolize, and utilize certain nutrients. This affects neurotransmitter balance and how your brain chemicals communicate information throughout your brain and body, directly impacting your personality. A deeper understanding of your genes and possible nutrient imbalances can help you to better understand yourself and support you in becoming the person you want to be.

Why you should watch the recording?

Whether you are a perfectionist who has a hard time letting things go, struggle with anxiety and get easily overwhelmed, or have underlying irritability and lack of focus, this event is for you!

Dr. Ari breaks down the main four subtypes of nutrient imbalances, how those can influence certain personality characteristics, and how proper nutrition can help to rectify these imbalances.

Additional Information

This event covers a lot of excellent information, so you may want to periodically pause, reverse, and listen again to any information you didn’t catch the first time.

For those who’d like to go deeper on this topic, Dr. Ari suggests reading Nutrient Power: Heal Your Biochemistry and Heal Your Brain by William J. Walsh.
