“Needed’s Prenatal Omega-3+ is a unique combination of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA + DHA), choline, lutein, and zeaxanthin that work synergistically to support the brains and nervous systems of women and growing babies. Omega-3s support a healthy antioxidant response that can support mood. Over 95% of mamas aren’t meeting their omega-3 needs. Needed goes above and beyond to third-party test every batch to ensure their algal oil is free from heavy metals, microbes, allergens, and other contaminants. That is incredibly important to me in recommending any product to my pregnant patients.”

- Dr. Soyona Rafatjah, MD

Why Omega-3+ is needed.

Omega-3 (DHA + EPA), Choline, Lutein, and Zeaxanthin work synergistically together to support:

The right nutrients in bioavailable forms.

We are thoughtful about every ingredient.

Omega-3 DHA

DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is a long-chain Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid that is abundant in fish. We source ours from sustainable microalgae, a sustainable alternative to fish, and is actually where fish get their Omega-3 from. The American Pregnancy Association’s recommended 300mg per day of DHA, but research many women need or can benefit from more. Choline

100mg (2 capsules) / 200mg (4 capsules) as VitaCholine™, Vidaspheres® Beadlet Technology as VitaCholine™, Vidaspheres® Beadlet Technology
Our Prenatal Multi is the only one to match the full RDA for nursing women. Other research suggests daily Choline intake above 930mg is optimal. On average, pregnant mamas consume just 320mg of Choline in their diet (eggs are the most common dietary source), so extra Choline in our Omega-3 capsules helps to fully fill in what's needed. Most prenatal vitamins contain 55mg of Choline or less as it’s a bulky nutrient that can be difficult to formulate with. Choline Bitartrate is an optimal form for providing a concentrated dose that’s easily absorbed. Our Prenatal Multi is the only one to match the full RDA for nursing women. about Omega-3+ and Needed?

What is Omega-3?
Omega-3 is critical fat for before, during, and after pregnancy. You cannot make Omega-3, and must obtain it from diet or supplementation. There are three main types of Omega-3, ALA, DHA, and EPA. ALA is found in plants like chia seeds, flax seeds, and walnuts. ALA needs to be converted into the DHA and EPA forms of Omega-3 in order to be used by the body. This conversion process is highly inefficient (often less than 1%), so it is important for mom and baby to consume DHA and EPA directly. Fatty fish and supplements are the two reliable dietary sources. Fish do not make the DHA and EPA, but instead bioaccumulate them from eating algae.
How do I know if I need Omega-3?
Our testing kit can help. Many are surprised to find that even if they eat a lot of salmon and sardines, their Omega-3 levels are lower than optimal. Our’s were! And, research shows that up to 95% of women are deficient. Even if you are not deficient, the more Omega-3 in your diet the better you will feel, especially when you are building baby as ⅓ of his or her brain is made of Omega-3.
Why is the dosage set at 400mg DHA + 100mg EPA?
We set our dosage in partnership with leading scientists and health practitioners across modalities (including MDs, NDs, nutritionists, Chinese medicine doctors, midwives, and other birth work professionals) based on research and in-practice experience. Our 400mg of DHA conforms to the American Pregnancy Association per day recommendation. A combination of DHA to EPA allows us to provide multiple benefits for mom and baby, as DHA and EPA have different and often complementary physiological effects. And, as an added benefit to our Omega-3+, the capsules provide a good source of Choline at 100mg plus Lutein and Zeaxanthin, which all work synergistically to support mama and baby. We recognize that some practitioners recommend higher dosages of Omega-3 for before, during and after pregnancy which is why we suggest doubling the dose for a period of time if your levels are low.
Is your Omega-3+ vegan, allergen free, and Non-GMO?
Our Omega-3 is vegan, we source it from algae. Fish actually don’t make their own Omega-3 they just bioaccumulate it from algae. It is allergen free, meaning no milk, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy, and gluten. It is also free of GMOs, artificial colors, artificial flavors, preservatives, and other additives and fillers.
What kind of testing do you do?
Our Omega-3+ is expertly formulated and clinically validated by 10+ years of research and development, including through third-party clinical studies. We test every batch for performance and quality, including through third parties that test for nutritional content, pesticides and herbicides, heavy metals, microbes, allergens, and other contaminants.
Everything makes me nauseous while I am pregnant, will your product work for me?
Many pregnant mamas find our capsules pleasant to take as they are smaller than standard fish oil pills, flavored with bergamot and do not have a fishy aftertaste. However, do not stress if nothing is working for you in your early pregnancy, as baby draws most of the Omega-3 it needs in the third trimester, so you can pause your subscription and restart once your nausea has passed (soon, we hope!)
Why should I start a subscription? How does a subscription work?
Daily, continuous supplementation is needed to maintain optimal Omega-3 levels for you and your baby before, during, and after pregnancy. Our subscription ensures you never miss a day of optimal nourishment. We’ll send you an email each month, a few days before we charge you and ship your next box. You can delay an order, or cancel your subscription at any time, right from your account page.
What products work best with the Omega-3+?
Our products are designed to be taken together for optimal nutrition. We recommend pairing the Omega-3+ with our Prenatal Multi, Pre/Probiotic, and Collagen Protein to fully support you and baby throughout pregnancy.
I’m not yet pregnant or a mom, is your product still for me?
Yes, our product is tailored for before, during, and after pregnancy, but it is beneficial at all stages of life. Research suggests that a mom’s habits prior to conception influence her baby’s well-being not just at birth, but also for its entire lifetime. At every stage of life, the more Omega-3 in your diet, the better you will feel. So, it’s never too early to start a subscription.
What happens if I miss a day? Or a few days?
Don't sweat it. We know how busy life can get. You can go ahead and double-up the dose for any days missed. Going forward, we recommend that you try to take your Omega-3 everyday to see positive, long-lasting results.
