Learn More

We recommend taking Iron away from our Prenatal Multi, as Iron can interact with other nutrients and this can impact absorption. We also recommend taking only as much as you need (some mamas do not need to supplement), as too much supplemental Iron can generate oxidative stress and impact the gut microbiome. Talk to your health practitioner about testing your Iron status before, during, and after pregnancy, and supplement if you are falling short. We've included a handy dosage chart below to help you know what's needed.

How to Use

Take one capsule up to four times daily, as advised by your health practitioner. We suggest taking away from meals and your Prenatal Multi. Our Iron is absorbed most easily on an empty stomach*. Store fully sealed at room temperature.

    Great product!

Wanted to start prenatals and an iron supplement 3 months prior to trying to get pregnant. I researched a lot of brands and I love the cleanliness of this brand and ingredients. I also loved that there was the option to have the iron supplement separate as iron should be taken on an empty stomach and the prenatals taken with food where a lot of companies had the iron in the prenatal which affects absorption. Also, having it separate is beneficial if doctors need to adjust iron amounts in later pregnancy or reduce if causing constipation etc. Great product and company, definitely recommend!

    Great!

I have had to be on an iron supplement for all three of my pregnancies. Being pregnant with my third, I feel so much more comfortable with the ingredients in the Needed prenatal iron than the one I used with my previous pregnancies!

    Very Easy on the Stomach

I started taking this in my second trimester to avoid iron deficiency and it has been SO gentle on my stomach! I was so pleasantly surprised.

    A must!

I became anemic in my third trimester, which is very common. However, I could tell it was significantly affecting me and my energy level. I immediately turned to Needed’s iron supplement (as I’ve been on Needed’s plan since last year, and have felt such a huge difference ever since starting! Plus, it doesn’t leave me constipated like other iron supplements do. A true win-win!

    No GI issues

Everyone said iron would mess with my stomach. I have so many friends on iron so when I was diagnosed with anemia during pregnancy I was nervous. But I’ve been taking 4 pills/day with no GO issues! This was such a relief!

Thoughtful inquiry is needed.

What makes Needed’s Prenatal Iron different than others?

Our Iron is provided as Ferrous Bisglycinate Chelate (Ferrochel™), a form of iron bound to the amino acid glycine. Each capsule provides 13.5 mg of iron, making it easier to adjust your intake based on your individual needs. Ferrous Bisglycinate Chelate is known for its high bioavailability and is generally gentler on the digestive system than many other forms of iron, helping to minimize common concerns like constipation or stomach discomfort.

Why do you offer Iron separately from your Prenatal Multivitamin Pro?

We recommend taking Iron away from our Prenatal Multi for optimal absorption as Iron and some other minerals absorb best apart. We also recommend taking only as much as you need, as too much supplemental Iron can generate oxidative stress and alter the gut microbiome.*

We recommend testing your ferritin levels. Consult your healthcare practitioner before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a medical condition, or are taking medications.

Our Iron is bound to Glycine for better absorption and digestive comfort.*

How do I know how much Iron I need?

Iron needs can vary from person to person. On this page, you’ll find a guidance chart developed in partnership with women’s health practitioners who regularly assess iron levels before, during, and after pregnancy. Your healthcare practitioner can also test your ferritin levels, which may help determine whether additional iron is appropriate for you.

Is your Iron vegan, allergen free, and Non-GMO?

Our Iron is vegan and non-GMO. Made without 9 major allergens, gluten, and unwanted fillers.

Can I customize my subscription based on my monthly Iron needs?

Our subscriptions are flexible, you can easily adjust it to receive your Iron at a different cadence than our standard monthly delivery. Email us at hello@thisisneeded.com if you need help.
