How does using my HSA/FSA save me money?

HSA/FSA accounts were created so individuals could use pre-tax money to pay for expenses used to treat, mitigate, or prevent a diagnosed medical condition. Because HSA/FSAs use pre-tax money, you’re getting more purchasing power for your dollars. Rather than pay taxes on income and then spend it on health items, qualified customers can use pre-tax funds to invest in root cause interventions.

Who is Truemed?

At Truemed, we believe that investing in your health is far more valuable than waiting to spend on sickness. By unlocking pre-tax HSA/FSA spend on research backed interventions such as fitness, supplements, and health technology, we’re shifting healthcare spend toward true medicine.

Questions? We have answers.

Thoughtful inquiry is needed.

Do you accept HSA/FSA payments?

Yes, we partner with Truemed to make this possible for our customers.

At checkout, select Truemed as the payment method and follow the steps. The first time you place an order with us using Truemed, you'll be prompted to create a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN). Your LMN is valid with us for 12 months.

If you don't see the prompt to create the LMN, please use THIS LINK to begin the process.

How much will I save with Truemed?

In addition to Needed discounts, Needed customers using HSA/FSA funds save their income tax rate because they’re paying with pre-tax dollars. Paying through Truemed is not a discount on products or plans. The savings come from the tax advantage of the HSA/FSA account. Actual savings using Truemed depend on individual tax rate.

I don’t see the Truemed option at checkout

Let's help you investigate. There are a few likely causes:

  • If signed into Shop Pay, log out and check out as a guest.
  • The specific product hasn’t been set up in Truemed’s system yet. - Let us know which product you are interested in.
  • The product isn’t eligible for HSA/FSA coverage.
  • Truemed only works on Needed's website, not a third party site.

If you are checking out as a guest on the Needed website and the product should be eligible, please contact support@truemed.com with the product name.

Where is my Letter of Medical Necessity?

After completing the clinical intake form, you will receive your Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) via their Truemed dashboard at truemed.com. Most LMNs are issued within a few hours, though it can take up to 1-2 business days.

If you haven't received your LMN, try:

  • Logging into your Truemed dashboard to check the status.
  • Check your spam or junk folder for emails from Truemed.
  • Make sure you completed the full clinical intake form (it may have timed out or been left incomplete).
  • If none of that resolves the issues, please contact support@truemed.com.
Why wasn’t I approved?

Not every customer qualifies. Eligibility depends on individual health circumstances and a clinician’s assessment. Since both are confidential health information we are unable to know or share why you were not approved. For questions about your qualification outcome, please contact support@truemed.com.

My HSA/FSA card was declined

Card declines are usually an issue with the customer’s card or account, not with Truemed. Common causes include insufficient balance, an inactive or expired card, daily spending limits, or the card issuer not recognizing the merchant.

We suggest:

  • Check your HSA/FSA account balance.
  • Confirm your card is activated and not expired.
  • Contact your card issuer to ask about the decline reason.
  • Pay with a regular card instead, then submit for reimbursement using your Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN)  and receipt.

If the issue persists, please contact support@truemed.com.

Can I use my HSA/FSA on a subscription?

Yes, but subscriptions follow the reimbursement flow. You will pay for the subscription with a regular card, complete the qualification survey, and then submit your Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) and receipt to your HSA/FSA administrator for reimbursement. The same LMN covers recurring charges for up to 12 months.

Why is only part of my order eligible?

Some products are only partially eligible. This happens when a product includes features beyond what’s considered medically necessary. Truemed calculates the eligible portion using a comparable item approach, and your Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) and receipt will show the breakdown.

In this case, you will pay full price and can submit the eligible portion for HSA/FSA reimbursement.

If you have questions about the specific amounts, please contact support@truemed.com.

Can I split my payment between my HSA/FSA card and a regular card?

Yes. Truemed’s Split Pay feature will allow you to divide a single order across your HSA/FSA card and a regular credit or debit card. Keep in mind split pay is available for one-time purchases only, not recurring subscriptions.

How do I get reimbursed?

If you paid with a regular card (not your HSA/FSA card), you can submit your Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) and order receipt to your HSA/FSA administrator for reimbursement. The process varies by administrator, but generally involves logging into the administrator’s portal, navigating to the claims section, and uploading both documents.

If you need help with the reimbursement process, please contact support@truemed.com.

I don’t have an HSA/FSA account

Truemed is only available to customers with an HSA or FSA account. If you do not yet have one, check with your employer’s HR or benefits department about enrollment options, typically during open enrollment. Truemed cannot help customers open or fund an HSA/FSA account.
