Vitamin A

1,500mcg RAE as 50% Beta Carotene and as 50% Retinyl Palmitate
Retinyl Palmitate is an active form that is more readily usable by the body. Beta Carotene is often poorly absorbed and inefficiently converted into the active form. And, many women have a genetic variation that prevents the conversion completely. Our combination provides enough Retinyl Palmitate to be effective, while still being safe for all mamas and mamas-to-be.

Vitamin C

500mg as Ascorbic Acid
Ascorbic Acid is the main form of Vitamin C found naturally in fruit and other foods. This is a highly efficacious dose of Vitamin C to support mama in pregnancy and postpartum as delivery and labor use extraordinary amounts of Vitamin C. We deliver our vitamin C in plant-based beadlets for optimal nutrient absorption and protection.

  • building cartilage, tendons, bones, teeth, blood vessels, and skin

Vitamin D

4,000 IU as D3 Cholecalciferol
Vitamin D3 is technically not a vitamin, but a prohormone. Prohormones are the building blocks of fully formed hormones. Your skin produces Vitamin D3 when it is exposed to sunlight. But, most mamas don't get enough sun and Vitamin D is difficult to get from food. In addition, many women contain genetic variations that predispose them to lower levels of Vitamin D. Vitamin D3 is more readily used by the body than Vitamin D2. Our dose provides enough to be effective, while still being safe for all mamas and mamas-to-be.
How it supports mama:
  • immune function
  • calcium and phosphorus absorption
  • immune function
  • calcium and phosphorus absorption

Vitamin E

30mg as Mixed Tocopherols
Tocopherols are antioxidants that occur naturally in foods such as nuts, seeds, and leafy green vegetables. We source ours from rapeseed oil rather than the more commonly found soybean oil. We provide 64mg of mixed tocopherols overall, with 30mg from d-alpha tocopherols declared as Vitamin E. This dose provides extra antioxidant support to meet the needs of pregnant and nursing mamas.

Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)

20mg as 50% Riboflavin 5-Phosphate and 50% Riboflavin
The Riboflavin family are the precursors of the coenzymes, flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) and flavin mononucleotide (FMN). We use both forms to support production of both coenzymes as Riboflavin contributes the flavin to FAD and Riboflavin-5-Phosphate is synonymous to FMN. Vegan or vegetarian mamas have decreased dietary intake. Deficiencies observed in clinical practice justifies higher dosage.
How it supports mama:
  • energy (ATP) production
  • antioxidant involved in glutathione metabolism

Vitamin B6

40mg as Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate
Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate is bioavailable and ready to be used by the body. It's only found in animal products. Many, due to a common genetic variation, are inefficient converters of B6 Pyridoxine into the active form. Our dose is especially supportive for mamas, including for mood imbalance and nausea, and is highly safe. Many mamas are low in B6, as hormonal birth control significantly depletes the body of it.
How it supports mama:
  • minimizes nausea
  • blood sugar balance
  • healthy mood through production of several key neurotransmitters
  • increasing Magnesium absorption
  • protein utilization, by interconverting amino acids
How it supports baby:
  • DNA synthesis

  • healthy skin

Folate

918mcg DFE as L-Methylfolate, Glucosamine Salt Quatrefolic®
Methylfolate paired with Glucosamine Salt is bioavailable and ready to be used by the body. We avoid Folic Acid, as it is unusable or harmful for many mamas. The unmethylated Folate form found in plants is not readily converted into the usable Methylfolate form. Our dose provides enough Folate to be effective, especially for those with conversion difficulty, while still being safe for all mamas and mamas-to-be. While too little Folate can lead to mood imbalances, so can too much Folate.
How it supports mama:
  • mood imbalances, as it helps produce several key neurotransmitters
  • heart health
  • healthy red blood cells
  • immune support
  • detoxification
How it supports baby:

Vitamin B12

300mg as 50% Adenosylcobalamin and 50% Methylcobalamin
Adenosylcobalamin and Methylcobalamin are the two active coenzyme forms that are readily usable by the body. Adenosylcobalamin supports energy and a healthy metabolism, and is often missing in prenatals. Cyanocobalamin, the more common form of B12, consists of a harmful compound that requires additional processing for safe removal from the body. We avoid this form. Our combination provides enough Vitamin B12 to be highly supportive, while still being safe for all mamas and mamas-to-be.
How it supports mama:
  • energy levels
  • healthy metabolism
  • cognitive health
  • managing stress
How it supports baby:
  • DNA and red blood cell synthesis
  • conduction of nerve impulses
  • works synergistically with Folate to support normal neural tube development

Choline

550mg as Choline L(+) Bitartrate (VitaCholine™)
Our dose matches the RDA for nursing women. Other research suggests daily Choline intake above 930mg is optimal. On average, pregnant mamas consume just 320mg of Choline in their diet (eggs are the most common dietary source, but other foods like tofu, quinoa, and broccoli contain some Choline). Most prenatal vitamins contain 55mg of Choline or less as it’s a bulky nutrient that can be difficult to formulate with.
How it supports mama:
  • healthy metabolism
  • normal liver function

Calcium

400mg as Di-Calcium Malate (DimaCal™) and naturally occurring
Di-Calcium Malate is absorbed significantly better than other forms of Calcium, such as Calcium Citrate or Carbonate. The RDA for Calcium is 1,300mg. However, Calcium is best taken throughout the day, rather than in a single large dose. Our dosage is supportive for filling in gaps in mama’s diet, especially if she is not consuming dairy products.
How it supports mama:
  • healthy blood pressure
  • cardiac function
  • healthy bones
  • production of hormones like insulin
  • muscle relaxation
How it supports baby:
  • forming and strengthening bones and teeth
  • full-term gestation
  • growing a healthy heart, nerves, and muscles

Iron

0mg Naturally Occuring
Too much Iron can generate oxidative stress and alter the gut microbiome. Higher supplement dosages should only be taken with anemia. Non anemic mamas should be able to make-up their remaining Iron needs from food. Iron from animal foods is 2-4x better absorbed than Iron from plant-based sources. Vitamin C can increase absorption. Your doctor should monitor your Iron status in pregnancy and let you know if you are falling short.

Iodine

290mcg as Potassium Iodide
Potassium Iodide is a well absorbed and reliable source of Iodine. Studies have found wide variations in the content of Iodine sourced from kelp. This matches the RDA for nursing women. Too little and too much Iodine is harmful. This dose provides enough to be effective, while still being safe for mamas and mamas-to-be that may be getting more from diet.
How it supports mama:
  • normal thyroid function
  • pregnancy viability
How it supports baby:
  • brain development
  • normal thyroid development
  • full-term gestation

Magnesium

400mg as Magnesium Bisglycinate
Magnesium Glycinate, specifically Magnesium BisGlycinate, is a mineral chelate where the Magnesium is bound to two glycine amino acids. This form is better absorbed and gentler to digest than other forms of Magnesium. Some other forms, like Magnesium Oxide, can be so poorly absorbed that they can cause loose stools and inhibit the absorption of other nutrients. Our powder form allows us to deliver the full RDA of 400mg in an easy-to-take format. We do not recommend taking more than 400mg at once, as higher dosages may slow the nutrient’s absorption.
How it supports mama:
  • healthy blood pressure
  • highly supportive for back pain, constipation, headaches, hypertension, impaired insulin metabolism, leg cramps, and nausea
  • promotes relaxation and improved sleep quality
How it supports baby:
  • formation of teeth and bones
  • adequate birth weight

Ready to talk to your health practitioner about our better Prenatal Multi?

Thoughtful inquiry is needed.

Why preorder?
We are working hard to fully optimize our Prenatal Multi for you. Your preorder helps make this happen as we are a young company doing a lot of research and development. We anticipate shipping in mid-November, and will keep you updated with an official delivery date. Minor tweaks may be made to the formula you see on the supplements facts panel before completion. We have a 100% satisfaction guarantee policy.
What makes Needed's Prenatal Multi different from others?
We work directly with practitioners to select nutrients that work best in the body, and dosages intended to fully nourish, unlike most prenatals that provide inadequate nutrient amounts and tough-to-absorb forms.
Why powder?
Powder allows our Prenatal Multi to deliver all of the vitamins, minerals, and botanicals needed for complete, comprehensive nourishment — many of the best nutrients are bulky and can’t fit into 1- or 2-a-day prenatal capsules. You’ll see that a number of nutrient dosages are quite unique including 550mg of Choline and 400mg of Magnesium. Powder is more easily absorbed into the body. There is no need for additives or coatings. And, it tastes great and is seamless to incorporate into daily meals, drinks, or snacks (like smoothies, protein bites, nut milks, and more).
When should I start taking the Prenatal Multi?
Take it before, during, after pregnancy — and even beyond — for the nourishment you need to feel your best and avoid depletion, and to give your baby everything their body needs to thrive from the very start. We like to stress the importance of preconception nutritional preparation and postpartum recovery, so this product is for you even if you are a few years away from having kids or a few years postpartum.
Why do the amounts of some of the nutrients in Prenatal Multi exceed the percent Daily Value?
We designed our Prenatal Multi for optimal nourishment rather than to meet bare minimum needs. Daily Values are set off of the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs) which most often do not offer enough nutritional value.
Is your Prenatal Multi vegan, allergen free, and Non-GMO?
Our Prenatal Multi is vegetarian, but not vegan. There are considerable sustainability questions around the common vegan source of Vitamin D3, lichen. Lichen is a moss-like organism that exists as a composite of fungus and algae. It is an important part of the Arctic tundra ecosystem and grows "extremely slowly", less than a millimeter per year. For this reason, we prefer a “mind-fully made” D3 originally sourced from lanolin. It is allergen free, meaning no milk, egg, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soy, and gluten. It is also free of GMOs, artificial colors, artificial flavors, preservatives, and other additives and fillers.
Can I give it to my partner?
Yes, we do. We make a “couples smoothie” almost every morning. We’re working on a specific formula for the men in our lives that will have a few more sperm boosters like CoQ10. In the meantime, our Prenatal Multi paired with our Omega-3 and Collagen Protein is a great start. Conception is a two-way street. (We then separately take our Pre/Probiotic.)
Will the Prenatal Multi make my urine a bright yellow?
It may at times, especially with consistent use. B Vitamins in particular can cause urine to change to a bright yellow hue. Your body is excreting what it doesn’t need. We use nutrients forms that are most easily absorbed by the body, but because we set dosages to be fully supportive, the nutrient amounts may sometimes be more than you need. At our dosages, this is not harmful in any way, but just a guarantee you hit optimal amounts. Less is not more in our mind!
Where is the Prenatal Multi Manufactured?
The Prenatal Multi is manufactured in the United States at a FDA, GMP and QAI Certified Organic facility.
What kind of testing do you do?
We test every batch for performance and quality, including through third parties that test for nutritional content, pesticides and herbicides, heavy metals, microbes, allergens, and other contaminants.
Everything makes me nauseous while I am pregnant, will your product work for me?
Many pregnant mamas find our product more pleasant to take than a pill, and can often find something palatable to mix the powder into, even while nauseated. It is simple to incorporate the powder into the meals or beverages that sound appealing like smoothies, meals, protein bites, etc.
Why do you suggest taking more than just the Prenatal Multi?
Our Prenatal Multi is the most comprehensive available, but some extra support is always needed during this life stage. Our products are designed to be taken together. We recommend pairing the Prenatal Multi with our Omega-3 powder, Collagen Protein, and Pre/Probiotic to fully support you and baby before, during, and after pregnancy. Keeping the products separate allows us to maintain quality. For example, we find the Omega-3 (DHA + EPA) is compromised when taken out of the context (our liposomes keep the Omega-3 in their natural context) and mixed into a multivitamin
Why should I start a subscription? How does a subscription work?
Daily, continuous supplementation is needed to maintain optimal levels for you and your baby before, during, and after pregnancy. Our subscription ensures you never miss a day of optimal nourishment. We’ll send you an email each month, a few days before we charge you and ship your next box. You can delay an order, or cancel your subscription at any time, right from your account page.
I’m not yet pregnant or a mama, is your product still for me?
Yes, our product is tailored for before, during, and after pregnancy, but it is beneficial at all stages of life. Research suggests that a mama’s habits prior to conception influence her baby’s well-being not just at birth, but also for its entire lifetime. We recommend taking our Prenatal Multi prior to becoming pregnant to build your stores of key nutrients that are commonly depleted during pregnancy. The more you have prior to pregnancy, the better you may be able to feel during pregnancy.
What happens if I miss a day? Or a few days?
Don't sweat it. We know how busy life can get. We suggest building your Prenatal Multi consumption into an existing routine (like your morning smoothie), to keep the habit strong. Taking your Prenatal Multi every day will provide positive, long-lasting results.
