What is Perimenopause?

Perimenopause is the natural, transitional phase leading up to menopause, during which the body’s production of estrogen and progesterone fluctuates, often starting in a women’s 40s or late 30s and lasting several years. It is characterized by irregular periods, hot flashes, and other hormonal symptoms, ending when a person has gone 12 consecutive months without a period.
